Key points to agree with your client or manager before you start designing:

  • Considering emotions or ideas the logo should evoke
  • Existing brand guidelines
  • Will the logo need to evolve into a broader brand system, such as a logo family or sub-brand variations?
  • Budget and allowed time for the project

Sketch Concepts

  • Drawing skills make little difference!
  • Drawing 3-4 (or more) ideas on paper focusing on the concept rather than the rendition
  • Sharing your ideas and gaining feedback from your client or manager

Concept Development

  • Redrawing and refining preferred concept(s) if development is needed
  • Sourcing image and/or typographic references where required

Logo Drawing Techniques

Drawing the logo in Adobe Illustrator:

  • Using shape tools, shape builder, pen tool, and image trace to construct elements
  • Adding colors, gradients, and effects

Finished Artwork

  • Convert final logo into different color formats (CMYK, RGB, black and white)
  • Export for print and digital applications (.ai, .pdf, .svg, .jpg, .png, etc.)
  • Adding logo in different formats to CC Libraries for use in Photoshop and InDesign or sharing with colleagues

You’ll need to have attended our Illustrator Introduction course or have equivalent working knowledge of the software before joining this class.
If you use different software to create vector graphics, please contact us for a private training session.
