Data-driven journalism is the increasingly popular journalistic process of analysing and filtering data to find new stories or different angles on existing stories. This is a one day course that will teach Journalists to how use the many powerful data-analysis tools of Microsoft Excel to assess data found different sources and look for stories within the facts.

This course assumes a working knowledge of Excel. It is not a course that will teach you to write a story, if you wish to hone your writing skills, you should consider taking our Introduction to Feature Writing or Introduction to News Writing courses as well.

Writing live is a new challenge for journalists and requires the ability to take proven journalism techniques and adapt them to an audience used to the delivery of information found on social media platforms.

This one day course looks at how to report on events that are often unstructured and chaotic and give help on how to find a story that will appeal to readers and how to give the story structure and order. You will also gain practical advice on how to keep the reader engaged and use the wider social network to add a human element to your reporting.

This course is designed for people who already have writing or journalistic experience. If you do not, you should attend our Introduction to Journalism or Introduction to Feature Writing or News Writing courses first.
