Adobe's Digital Publishing Suite allows you to bring your print designs to life and create engaging multi-media publications and apps. If you have InDesign CS5 or later you can learn how to use Adobe InDesign's Digital Publishing Suite tools to build, preview and share digital publishing solutions.
You have four choices of Adobe DPS solutions, the one you choose will depend on your requirements.
Ideal for small to mid-sized design teams and freelance graphic designers who don't have a Creative Cloud membership but would like to produce one-off interactive iPad apps such as brochures, portfolios, and annual reports; without relying on app developers. Deliver existing print content in a more exiting and dynamic way than a PDF ever could. Pay a one-time fee to create a custom app for the iPad that contains a single edition.
Costs
£289.05 for each app you publish (April 2014). You will also need to become an Apple iOS developer, with a subscription fee of about £60 ($99) per year.
Pros
A Creative Cloud subscription isn't required to produce an app, so great if you don't want to upgrade to InDesign CC. You are only charged the Single Edition fee, you are not charged any additional download fees by Adobe.
Cons
You can only publish a Single Edition App and it can only be published for the iPad.
You have to pay £289.05 for each app you submit to the Apple iTunes store.
The app needs to published using Adobe's DPS App Builder which currently only runs on the Mac platform, so you will need access to a Mac to create the finished app. Creating multi-folio apps is not possible. There currently is no access to any analytical data on customer interaction and engagement for apps created using a single edition license.
Ideal for freelance graphic designers and small to medium sized design teams who have Creative Cloud memberships and would like to produce one-off editions for iPad, which meet their clients needs in a more exiting and dynamic way than a PDF can. Almost identical features to the Single Edition solution but you don't pay for each individual app produced.
Costs
Free - no additional fees for each app you publish as it's all part of your Creative Cloud subscription. However you will need to become an Apple iOS developer, with a subscription fee of about £60 ($99) per year.
Pros
You can publish an unlimited number of Single Edition apps as part of your Creative Cloud subscription.
Cons
You can only publish Single Edition apps for iOS (iPhone & iPad) devices. The app needs to be published using Adobe's DPS App Builder which currently only runs on the Mac platform so you will need access to a Mac to create the finished app. Creating multi-folio apps is not possible. There currently is no access to any analytical data on customer interaction and engagement for apps created using a single edition license.

Ideal for medium to large media business publishers, design studios and membership organisations who want to provide multi-folio and single edition apps for iPad, Android and Kindle Fire tablet devices.
Costs
Monthly subscription of £346.86 (price at April 2014) for each multi-folio app.
Pros
Create, edit and publish multi-folio content efficiently for iOS, Android and Kindle Fire devices. Professional Edition DPS allows members of a team to be allocated different roles within the workflow. You can also create an unlimited number of single-folio apps. Professional Edition DPS contains analytics which show how customers engage with the content. The cost also includes specialist technical telephone support to Adobe DPS experts.
Cons
It can only create one multi-folio app per subscription. More expensive than option one and two. Requires time to manage staff DPS roles and responsibilities.
Ideal for large businesses who want to provide both multi-folio and single edition apps for iPad, Android and Kindle Fire devices. Typically customers are large organisations who wish to publish many titles. Enterprise Edition has more functionality and also allows you to create private apps that can be distributed via public app stores with restricted access, or hosted in-house behind a firewall and distributed internally.
Costs
You need to contact Adobe to discuss Enterprise requirements, as each Enterprise solution is likely to be very specific to each Enterprise customer.
Pros
Enterprise Edition has the functionality of the Professional Edition plus the ability to create multiple multi-folio apps. It provides the option to customise the viewer user interface for each app. It works with existing enterprise systems and third-party CRM systems. The cost includes specialist technical telephone support to Adobe DPS experts.
Cons
Largest financial commitment. Requires time to manage staff in DPS roles and responsibilities.
